Comedy at Ashkenaz! is a new monthly comedy series, taking place every 2nd Thursday of the month, presented by Kung Pao Kosher Comedy’s Lisa Geduldig and Ashkenaz.
The monthly show launched in October and will have a different line up of comedians each month, with Geduldig acting as the MC.
The Ashkenaz comedy waters were tested in June with a Gay Pride Comedy Night, and since a packed house turned out we’ve decided to collaborate and bring the East Bay this monthly comedy show.
The launch of the series, in October, turned into a North Bay fire relief benefit last minute and raised over $1200 for Redwood Empire Food Bank.
The third show in the series, which takes place on Thursday, December 14, will feature Shazia Mirza, Will Durst, Nina G, and Lisa Geduldig.
Shazia Mirza is an award-winning British stand up comedian and writer from England. Her recent TV appearances include The Jonathan Ross Show, Loose Women, The Late Late Show, Top Gear, Graham Norton Show, and she was the star of Celebrity The Island - Bear Grylls (October 2017) having survived a month of starvation and near death experience. Her latest solo show, “The Kardashians Made Me Do It” has been a sell-out success all over the UK, the US, Sweden, Ireland, and Paris, completed 3 sell out runs at London's Soho Theatre, and the tour was extended. Shazia has toured all over the world and appeared on Comedy Central, Last Comic Standing, The Craig Ferguson Show, and has been profiled on CBS 60 Minutes.
Mirza has stepped up a gear… the bravest thing you’ll see on a comedy stage this year... a remarkable finale. — SUNDAY TIMES.
Will Durst has been called by The New York Times "quite possibly the best political comedian working in the country today." He is a 5-time Emmy nominee, has been fired by PBS three times, told jokes in 14 countries, racked up 7 nominations for Stand Up of the Year, and his 800+ TV appearances include Letterman, HBO, Showtime, CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox News, the BBC and many more. The critically acclaimed Off-Broadway run of his one-man show, “The All American Sport of Bipartisan Bashing,” The All American Sport of Bi-Partisan Bashing was subsequently turned into a book of the same name by Ulysses Press. His hobbies include pinball, the never-ending quest for the perfect cheeseburger, and his heroes remain the same as when he was 12: Thomas Jefferson and Bugs Bunny, not necessarily in that order. Durst's performances are made possible by the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. He’s also a columnist, author, and sworn enemy to all tyrants foreign and domestic: these days with an emphasis on the latter.
Nina G is the Bay Area's favorite female stuttering stand up comedian (granted she is the only one). She is also a disability activist, storyteller, children's book author and educator. Nina brings her humor to help people confront and understand social justice issues such as disability, diversity, and equity. When she isn’t performing at comedy clubs or colleges, she is presenting as a keynote speaker to children with disabilities and training professionals. Nina is part of the comedy troupe “The Comedians with Disabilities Act,” which brings laughter and awareness to audiences of all ages across the country. She is the author of a children’s book, Once Upon An Accommodation: A Book About Learning Disabilities, that helps children and adults advocate for their rights as a person with a disability. Her one-person show, "Going Beyond Inspirational" a comical exploration about growing up with learning and speech disabilities was featured on CBS San Francisco Local.
