What does Ashkenaz mean to you? When people tell us about their special Ashkenaz moments, they mention not just the music and dance but also meeting new friends, learning about different cultures and creating community. Here are some of their stories:

"Taking a flamenco dance class at Ashkenaz has opened up a whole new world for me that includes Spanish dance/music/food/friends."

"I met my husband at an Ashkenaz Cajun dance and we are forever grateful to Ashkenaz for making it possible for us to meet one another and to continue to enjoy dancing together weekly."

"Coming to Ashkenaz to listen to music and to dance helped me to get through a very tough time in my life. Much cheaper than therapy too!"

"As a musician, there are very few venues to play African music. Ashkenaz values world music and gives artists the opportunity to sustain and share our traditions with others."

These are just a few of the many reasons why we believe in the programs that Ashkenaz presents every day of the year. And then there are the special programs. We are especially proud to have presented "YouthQuake: Teen Music Competition" in which teen bands competed for a performance slot on the Ashkenaz stage. Both students and parents told us how much it meant to them to be able to rehearse and then perform to an admiring crowd at Ashkenaz.

One of our most exciting new programs, made possible by a grant from the Walter & Elise Haas Fund, is the series entitled "TapRoots & New Growth: Cultivating World Music," in which lecture/demonstrations on world music are paired with concerts. The series has received rave reviews.

All these events were made possible through generous donations from people like you, in addition to our other private fundraising, which allows Ashkenaz to keep its ticket prices low and accessible to a broad community. We depend on your giving each year to support this varied and culturally rich programming.
