Youthquake:
Earth-Shaking Teen Music Competition

Do you dream of performing on a professional stage in front of an audience? This could be your big break.

Ashkenaz Music & Dance Community Center invites you to compete to be one of four bands to perform at Ashkenaz on March 5, 2006.

Here is how it works:

All high school age musical groups are eligible to apply. We prefer
groups that perform in music genres that Ashkenaz commonly
presents, such as: danceable world music, roots music, reggae,
Cajun/zydeco, bluegrass, swing, salsa, ska, etc. However, we will
accept rock, jazz, hip-hop.

Send your application form along with a tape or CD of at least
2 musical selections to Ashkenaz by January 23, 2006. The tape
need not be of professional quality; it may be made at a rehearsal.

Ashkenaz staff will then select 12-16 groups to audition at
Ashkenaz on Sunday, February 12, 2006 between 3:30-7:30 pm. The auditions will be open to the public. Judges will be evaluating the groups on their musical talents, performance skills, and ability to play together.

Groups will be notified if they have been selected to audition by February 1. The auditions will be held on Sunday, February 12. Each group selected to audition will have up to 10 minutes to perform. The audition judges will be comprised of local professional musicians, DJs, and Ashkenaz staff.

Four groups will perform at Ashkenaz on the night of March 5, 2006.

What do you need to do?

1. Select your group members (if you don't already have a group formed). We prefer groups of 4-8 members. Group members must be between 13 and 18 years old.

2. Practice, practice, practice!

3. Send in your application form (see below) and tape or CD by January 23, 2006.

4. The entire group needs to be available to audition (if selected)
on Sunday, February 12 (between 3:30 - 7:30 pm. You will be given a specific audition time.)

5. Be available to perform (if selected) on the evening of March 5,
2006. You will need to have enough material to perform for 30 minutes.
